365 Days of Dog Training - Lulu's Story
Lulu is our 2 year old Border Collie Sheltie Mix. Lulu was 6 weeks old when I met her and she was terrified. She had just been badly attacked by another larger dog and needed surgery to repair her wounds. It was clear she was overwhelming to the family and I knew as she grew up they would surely need help. I made sure to let them know I was here as a resource to them to help her. I didn't hear anything from them for 6 months and then the next thing I knew they were surrendering her to the clinic where I worked for me to take home.
It was a rough day for her - she hated baths and she got a bath. She hated kennels and she was kenneled all day. She was lost, confused and had no idea who her family would be.
It was a rough day for me - she hated baths and she bit me a lot during her first bath (she didn't damage my skin so at least I knew she had good bite inhibition). She hated kennels and she barked for 3 -4 hours straight. I was lost, confused and had to explain this new dog to my unsuspecting but very kind husband!
Since then she had grown into a highly intelligent, boisterous Sheltie (with a bit of Border Collie) who thinks she should herd cats, eat kitty litter and tell me how to live my life day to day. She is fun, she is frustrating and she is so very loud! But, more importantly she is silly, she is funny, she is smart and she makes me laugh every day.
I am excited about this new adventure and hope you will join us to see the progress we both make. It surely won't be boring!
